ABORTION

Article by Joel Kahn

Abortion is a subject discussed by the Torah and Rabbi's as discussing the fate of a (nearly grown) person, namely the fetus. The fetus is a person, not yet aware, but still a person. Thus by most teachings, abortion is only permitted if the birth of the fetus threatens the life or health of the mother. But then sometimes in these situations the fetus is slightly out, either the head or a limb, but it is found out that the baby has a sickness that will shorten its life to a maximum of 4 years. There are other situations discussed about abortion which help us get a clearer view on what it means to abort a person. Those are the discussions of the Torah, the Rabbis, and the Scholars of the jewish laws.

Roe vs. Wade

The Roe vs. Wade case was the first case of abortion discussed in the supreme court, and the ruling decided abortion was allowed until the fetus was viable; i.e. Was able to live out of the mothers womb. This is still discussed today and many people argue over it again and again and again.

My Opinion

I believe that no matter what, its better to have a short look at the world instead of ending its life in the womb. Whats the point of dying if you don't even learn what the world looks like? And if the baby's birth threatens the mother's life, then I believe its the mothers choice of whether her life or the baby's is more important. Don't kill a person. Save a persons life. (Which actually, is one of the ten commandments- Do not kill.)
